About Holiday Learning Club
The Holiday Learning Club was launched to provide holiday club facilities for the parent whose child has 11+ exams ahead, yet needs to go to work. The parent wishes to ensure their child incorporates regular periods of learning and fun physical activity during school holidays.
Traditional holiday clubs focus on fun activities, with little if any provision for the child who wishes to study. Traditional summer schools/ classes provide tuition for a few days a week often for only 2 or 3 hours a day.
The Holiday Learning Club, will enable a parent go off to work, safe in the knowledge that their child is benefiting from a structured learning programme whilst having fun!
Wallington High School for Girls is not connected to the Holiday Learning Club , we simply use their facilities. Please do not call the school with any enquiries about the club.
Personalised Learning programme
With only a few months to go before the next round of 11+ examinations, the child who gets offered that coveted place in a grammar or selective school will be the child who excels in all or most areas of the examined subject. A small difference in scores of two or five marks could mean the difference between being offered a place or not. Many children pass but only the very best get in.
At the Holiday Learning Club, our approach is to identify your child's strengths and weaknesses when they join us. We celebrate their strengths and then focus on eliminating weak areas through a series of one to one, group teaching sessions with experienced 11plus tutors and specific re-tests in that area. We keep you the parent informed of their progress by email.
Our aim is to ensure that every child who attends the Holiday Learning Club, masters and excels in areas they were weak on when they joined. This formative learning approach will ensure your child achieves one of the highest marks in the exam.
Fun physical activity sessions
There is the temptation for a child to spend the summer holiday period studying continuously or at the other extreme doing no work at all. At the HolidayLearning Club we aim to offer the perfect balance for a child on holiday.
Research has shown that physical activity strengthens a child's ability to pay attention which then results in better performance on academic achievement tests. Your child will have periods of learning interspersed with periods of fun physical activity throughout the day.
