What is the Eleven Plus?

• 11+, 11 plus or Eleven plus are slightly different names given to the tests set by pupils at the age of eleven in order to select pupils to go to certain schools. 
  

• The Eleven plus is used in both state schools and private/independent schools but not all of either.
  

• You can find out about the history of the Eleven plus on the internet on such sites as Wikipedia or by using the search engines. 
  

• The Eleven plus has been a controversial political issue for many years.
